The General Administration of Customs - Abu Dhabi has announced an increase in the customs revenues for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2018 through its annual report issued recently, where the revenues achieved had increased by 20.7% compared to 2017.
HE Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs emphasized the keenness of the General Administration of Customs to support and enhance the contribution to the economic growth of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi through increasing the volume of customs revenues, which is one of the main tasks of the customs work, and an important element of the strategy of Abu Dhabi Customs and its objectives in quest of enhancing community security, facilitating trade and supporting the Emirate’s economic prosperity.
HE Al Mansoori added that the financial procedures adopted by the General Administration of Customs - Abu Dhabi regarding the follow-up of the organization of payments by customs agents, in addition to the collection of any arrears, are among the positive factors for this year, as some analytical reports showed that three main sectors have directly impacted the increase of the size of revenues this year, namely the tourism sector represented in the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi by the end of 2017 which coincided with the beginning of the fiscal year 2018, in addition to the positive automotive sector represented in the agencies operating in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for this year and its related increase in the volume of imports, along with the development of the activity of the petroleum sector and the expansion of the size of mega projects related to the activities of this vital sector during 2018.
HE Director General pointed to the direct impact of the high level of performance of the General Administration of Customs - Abu Dhabi during 2018 compared to the levels of performance during the same period of 2017 on the increase in customs revenues for this year, where the distinguished customs performance of all the staff of the General Administration of Customs - Abu Dhabi during 2018 represented a vital factor in facilitating customs procedures and speeding up customs operations, which positively impacted the increase in the volume of imports and consequently the volume of customs revenues accordingly. According to the financial data of the follow up and gauging the level of revenues size, the results achieved exceeded all the prospects of 2018, besides the positive variation over the 2017 results.
It is worth mentioning the helping factors, including the service provision level agreements concluded with main partners, for example Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi Ports, Abu Dhabi Airports Company, and the Food Control Authority, which helped speed up and facilitate customs clearance procedures in various ports of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.Also, the transactions of express shipping companies marked a quantum leap in terms of the increase of the volume of trade in the Emirate.
HE Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs said, “This achievement is the result of a combination of efforts between various partners from the government and the private sector, which contributed significantly to the increase in revenues in 2018 in addition to facilitating the movement of trade in all ports of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which in turn contribute in the prosperity of the Emirate’s economy. “
